Splendid Airplay on “Rhoades All Over The Map” US Radio Show

DarrylRhoades&Cast-CrazyHeart09Hello everyone. You know, in the past, I’ve had a little criticism for not blogging enough – for not being more communicative with you all, for not reaching out and putting my thoughts up for online perusal. Judging by the gaps between my posts, I guess it’s hard to argue against that position. In response to that, I have to emphasise I’m very much of the school where quality is of more importance to me than quantity, so I feel it’s only appropriate to pass comment when something needs to be said. And, you know, a lot of the time, I haven’t got anything to tell you…..Well, let’s try this……

I have somehow managed to establish a transatlantic friendship with an eminent US musician and comedian by the name of Darryl Rhoades. Amongst many other things, he appeared in the 2009 film “Crazy Heart” with Jeff Bridges, Robert Duvall and Maggie Gyllenhaal (see above) and is currently a stand-up comedian based in Atlanta, Georgia. Via an extremely circuitous route, we became pals on Facebook (through mutual others) and he has since been a terrific supporter of my music, to the point where he is now playing my stuff on his internet radio show “Rhoades All Over The Map”. A recent show, broadcast on 16th April 2013 (8pm, EST), included a spoken-word trailer I recorded for him – can you believe, he asked me to do this? – and a seamless fade into “The Sun Is Cracking The Flags” (about halfway through the three-hour programme). I even requested he play some songs for me and, wouldn’t you know it, straight after me he threw in Sly & The Family Stone’s “Dance To The Music” and The Mothers’ “Plastic People”. I’ve had a few conversations with him via Facebook and he’s always been a kind, considerate, funny and fiercely opinionated guy who has gone out of his way to compliment me on my music, and to promote it to others. His radio show is excellent – he describes it as being “suck free”, playing all kinds on there from The Mills Brothers, Roy Orbison, XTC, The Hollies and Frank Zappa. To be included with those names is something of a thrill, and I would like to recommend his show to you immediately. You can find it most Tuesdays on American Hearts Radio, kicking off at about 1am GMT, but there is a “listen again” feature on the site – Darryl also has an archive of previous shows on his own website, Check him out and tell him I sent you.
